Variables
American Kestrel
Occurred the most disproportionately in hexagons where one of the
following is present: (a) April precipitation is 8-15 mm, and there is
any agricultural land; (b) April precipitation is 15-31 mm, and June
maximum temperature (hex. min.) is 26-28 C; or (c) April
precipitation is 31-91 mm, and there is little or no area containing
subalpine scattered trees and shrubs. Its distribution in wetter areas
(91-147 mm) is mostly associated with hexagons containing more than
4% agricultural land. The logistic regression analysis showed positive
or negative association with agricultural lands, big sagebrush
shrubland, ponderosa pine forest, Douglas-fir - w. hemlock - red cedar
forest, April precipitation (hex. med.), April precipitation (hex. min.),
the extent of public land, and-to a lesser degree-Sitka spruce - w.
hemlock maritime forest, April precipitation (hex. max.), and July
minimum temperature (hex. max.).
